invite you to participate in the 2010 Black-Eye Pea Cook-off and Bonifay’s Down Home Street
Festival in Bonifay.
Please note that the price of entry
will be $20.00 this year. We hope to make the event an enjoyable and memorable
one for you and your group.
Once you have read the CONTEST RULES,

CONTEST RULES for COOKING
PEAS
(1) Peas
and water will be furnished to each team. Each team/contestant is responsible
for furnishing kettle, utensils, flavoring and spices to his/her taste along
with a closed flame cooker and tent to cover cooking area.
(2) Contestants
will cook the 10 pounds peas assigned to his/her kettle. No peas may be removed
without Festival Committee approval.
(3)
Cooking area will open for participants at 6:45 a.m. Peas, water, and kettles should
be ready at this time. The Festival Committee will begin lighting fires at approximately
7:00 a.m.
(4) Judging will
begin at approximately 11: OO am (to be determined by the Festival Committee).
Awards will be announced after all judging has occurred. Immediately following
judging peas should be spooned into given cups to be distributed to the public
when the noon whistle blows.
(5) Entry fee for each
kettle will be $20.00.
Awards will also be given for 1st , 2nd
and 3rd place along with Best
of show, Cooking Area, and Costumes.
(6) Each contestant will be responsible for
cleaning the area around his/her assigned pot at the end of the day's
activities.
(7) Only four (4)
cooks will be allowed in the roped off "cooking" area at any given
time. Participants will be issued badges that will allow them in the area.
NO
OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS. FRIENDS. RELA
TIVES, LONG LOST PALS or ENEMIES will be allowed in the area and
please NO Children under the age of 12 for their safety. This is done to
keep the area safe and spill free. Failure to adhere to this rule may lead to
disqualification from the Cooking. The Festival Committee has the final
decision in this matter.
(8) For sanitary
reasons, cookers must use disposable spoons when tasting the beans during
cooking. Additionally, no smoking around cook pots.
(9) Entrants may
decorate the cooking area as you wish as long as it is not offensive & not too
close to the burners for flammable reasons! Prizes may be awarded for best
decorated area. Your decorations cannot interfere with safe travel in the area
or extend past your cooking area.
(10)
This event is intended to be a fun and entertaining event. Committee members
for the cooking area are volunteers who do this for enjoyment and have no
affiliation with anyone; therefore they treat everyone equally alike and with
respect. In return, they should be shown the same respect. Any abusive behavior
on the cooker's part during registration or cooking will NOT BE TOLERATED.
Applicant will be disqualified from the competition and will be banned from
future consideration from any Festival contests for three (3) years.

that failure to follow the rules may lead to disqualification from the Cooking
and the cooking area. I additionally understand that if am disqualified from
the Contest, I will not be allowed to participate in the Cooking Contest for
